The Royal Thai Navy has a long and distinguished history since Sukbethai

period in 1238 A D, when the first barges were used for war on the river. The

navy played an even greater role in the liberation of the country when King Taksin

fought for freedom with the Burmese using his naval fleet in 1767. Time

revealed that the Royal Thai Navy has much developed from the early era and

date has become one of the foremost navies of Southeast Asia.

'This second edition has been recompiled with up-to-date naval affairs and

detailed historical facts and images from traditional fighting boats to large hattle-

ships to great Royal Naval Fleet and feats of naval ancestors who served the nation

and people with their spirits and their lives. The book is testament to the variety of

missions and duties the Royal Thai Nayy has to undertake apart from

traditional wartime role. Today, the nayy has been requested by the government to

assume more responsibilities in civic action, disaster reliet and search and rescue

missions, We are proud of these roles, and especially of the various projects we

have taken up in the Service of His Majesty the King that are outlined in the book.

It is hoped that "The Royal Thai Navy" brings more understanding and

knowledge to the foreign reader of the high pride the Royal Thai Navy takes in

preserving our traditions and the Thai naval heritage
